The person assigned as the Task Force – Sales (TFS) will be assigned to develop and implement the total sales and marketing strategy of the hotel to ensure that occupancy, average daily rate, and market share goals are achieved. This position will be focused on a variety of tasks that are needed to support the Corporate Director of Sales, Vice President of Operations, Regional Director of Operations, and Regional Director of Sales.
The TFS will work directly with the Regional leadership team and/or General Manager to identify specific extended stay strategies and tactics to drive revenue according to the hotel’s seasonal demand. The TFS will also work with Sonesta’s Corporate Marketing and Revenue Management team, along with our Global Sales team to leverage national brand strategies at the local level.
Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients. Manage according to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service in all associates of the hotel.
Collaborate with Regional Directors of Operations, Regional Director of Sales, Regional Revenue Manager, and the Global Sales Office to create and monitor strategies to maximize revenue. Through this partnership be knowledgeable about the supply and demand dynamic of the individual hotel marketplace in order to set and monitor seasonal strategies to drive market share.
Conduct on-site hotel visits in conjunction with the priorities set by the GM/RDS. Meet with the General Manager weekly to outline objectives and expectations. Work as the Director of Sales to create and monitor sales plans to drive market share according to local market demand. Conduct market surveillance through a variety of channels and sources to identify new business opportunities. Uncover information about each key competitor hotel client base and key sales personnel. Devote sales time to moving any appropriate business from a competitor hotel into the hotel.
Monitor all financial activity to ensure revenue goals are met. Responsibilities include monitoring segment production, direct sales activity, and GSO production. Review and understand metrics and data included in a variety of reports to ensure maximization of revenue. Review monthly financial reports and monitor the hotel budget to ensure all revenue opportunities are being taken advantage of.
If managing other Sales employees, direct the day-to-day activities of the team, plan, organize, and assign work, develop and communicate strategies and goals. Create, train, and motivate those responsible for developing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts, and implementing sales strategies to achieve revenue goals and maximize profits for the hotel, while maintaining guest satisfaction. Advise staff of formal policies and procedures. Manage all human resources-related actions in accordance with Company rules and policies.
In partnership with the General Manager, RDO, and hotel’s assigned Human Resources representative to determine sales department staffing needs and participate in the recruiting, selecting, hiring, and training of hotel sales team members. Activities should revolve around goals to develop and create succession plans for individuals targeted for future growth within the company.
Create and implement hotel-level tactical sales plans that drive measurable incremental occupancy, increase average rates, and increase business volume during off-peak periods. Enhance the image of the hotel in the local community. Monitor sales activities/performance to ensure actual sales exceed the established revenue plan.
Analyze current/potential market and sales trends and coordinate all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and increased rate.
Provide leadership within the hotel regarding local brand positioning through the proper use of all marketing programs. This would include, but is not limited to Everyday Surprises, Travel Pass, and all other uses of the Sonesta logo and graphics standards.
Coordinate with other hotel-level departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the Sales Office and prospective clients.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with officials and representatives of local community groups. In coordination with the General Manager, serve as hotel representative for media-related inquiries and refer sensitive matters to Corporate Communications as necessary.
Prepare Weekly/Monthly reporting on account, individual, segment, and tier production.
Attend Evening Social and Breakfast events as a representative of the management team of the hotel and prospect for additional sales leads.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding health, safety, and alcohol services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration, Business Administration, or related field experience preferred.
Previous experience as a Director of Sales, in extended-stay hotels is preferred.
Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English; other languages beneficial.
Professional verbal and written communication skills.
Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Ability to travel 60% – 80% of the scheduled time.
Carrying, lifting or pulling items weighing up to 25 pounds.
A valid driver’s license is required.
